1) death vanilla/from above Death and Vanilla, Anders & Marleen. will release a 7-inch single via London-label The Great Pop Supplement soon. It will feature two new tracks, “From Above”, and “Lux”. The band says of it’s facebook page that there will be 400-hand numbered copies available. Watch the new video for “From Above”, above. It’s a beautiful, languid and spacey psychedelic track, that has its roots in a 70s sound. It’s the kind of music that could be played while watching the aurora borealis. http://deathandvanilla.bandcamp.com/ potete trovare il loro ultimo album più un ep e altre cosette, scaricabili nel formato che volete a prezzi più che abbordabili, 9 dollari per l'ultimo album. 2) coma/wouldn't it b good if it was true? I’ve been listening to this CoMa (aka Nicole Fox) track, “Wouldn’t It Be Good If It Was True?”, for a few months now and have neglected to post about it. It’s so much a part of my personal i-pod playlist that I can’t help but write about it now before the year’s end. The song is part of an ever-growing online compilation of tracks simply titled, “The CoMa Collection”, which you can hear at bandcamp. (As of this post, the collection features 29 songs.) “Wouldn’t It Be Good If It Was True?” highlights that old artistic maxim that ‘less is more’, and it manages to convey sultry mood and seductive ambiance in feathery vocals, resonant piano, a clickety-clack sample, and soft heartbeat percussion. It’s reminiscent of some of the prettier female vocal-led Massive Attack tracks. The wonder of the lyrics rests in a kind of hyper-sensory reflection and the vagueness of sensual phrases like “I can feel it” and “someone’s coming” — that give the song that floating, immersive feel. Things are undefined and yet palpable. There’s such a power underneath the teeming surface of the song, but it’s also fragile as papier-mâché. The entire arrangement is majestic, sexy, and breathtaking. It’s clearly one of the best tracks released this year: “Breathing in / To taste the clouds / Let me slip away / And fade into the crowd / I want to evaporate / And be embraced by air / I want to be water / And flow without a care / I can feel it, someone’s coming / I can feel the weight of their eyes / Whispering, so softly as they sing.” 4) eternal summers/good as you The Roanoke, Virginia duo Eternal Summers made their name in underground pop circles with a ramshackle guitar-and-drum sound that celebrated a resurgence several years ago. Time has told it's a formula that generally only goes so far, so it makes sense that for their sophomore record Correct Behavior, the band has fleshed out its sound with the addition of a new bassist. Dreamier territory comes with those textural expansions, and on "Millions" Nicole Yun's honed melodies shine and snap with newfound clarity that at times recalls a hyperactive Sundays, or Amelia Fletcher in Heavenly or Tender Trap. This is a well-paced progression that doesn't feel overtly recycled or deliberately slick, and a proper maturation for an indie pop band coming further into its own. 5)Neverever/wedding day band di cui si sa pochissimo, uscito questo ep per la slumberland records, dalla quale attingo quelo poco che posso dirvi, etichetta di veronica falls o frankie rose, per esempio che abbiamo ascoltato qui a sisterhood, Nowadays, it seems like every reviewer who hears a track with a touch of reverb, a female singer, and some overdubbed harmonies is quick to compare it to the classic girl-group sounds of the 1960s. Anyone who heard Scotland by way of LA group Neverever’s overlooked 2010 debut Angelic Swells knows they’re the real deal, though. Slumberland’s press materials coyly suggest that band-leaders Jihae and Wallace Meek are distant relatives of legendary eccentric English producer Joe Meek, and on this fun follow-up EP they present five songs that are a throwback to Meek’s heyday, when songs were written and produced by shadowy Svengalis, sung by professionals, and expertly engineered to hit all the right pop pleasure points. That being said, Neverever’s 60s homage is heavily informed by the early 80s, when Bow Wow Wow and the Stiff Records roster put their own stamp on the go-go pop and torch ballads of yore. Jihae’s vocals are tough and soaring, recalling Debbie Harry and the late, great Kirsty MacColl in equal measure. The result is a warped and winking tribute to the classics that starts with the jangly, super-sweet post-summertime blues of “Baby Oil & Iodine” and ends with the Northern Soul strut of “Wedding Day,” with the sassy Hunx & His Punx bubblegum punk of “Mexicoco” lying somewhere in the middle. If you had an unhealthy obsession with The Pipettes a few years ago (true confession: I did), then Shake-a-Baby might be right up your retro alley. 6) vi piacevano le shangri-la's e adorate le dum dum girls?vi sentite nate per la spiaggia, il sole, le feste i falo e i drive in? allora vi consiglio beach day Beach Day is: Kimmy, Natalie, Skyler Photo credit Christina Mendenhall Hollywood, Florida is not your typical beach town. The buildings, diners, and of course the beach appear frozen in the 1950’s. Probably a result of the town’s population boom happening in that era, a current drive down the streets feels like your moving through an R. Crumb drawing. Things seem exaggerated and a bit odd. The now mature population seems a caricature of their former selves. It is this strange place, lovingly dubbed Hollyweird, Florida, that the trio Beach Day calls home. Their sound is heavily influenced by their surroundings. They make new music, but it is definitely old at heart. And it’s definitely sunny, but not without some murkiness. Kimmy, Natalie and Skyler met at a local show and quickly bonded over their love of 60’s Girl Groups, their dissatisfaction with their current musical endeavors and a common desire to be in a band that was purely about fun and making music without pretense. Skyler was living in Asheville but missing the beach culture, so he moved back. Natalie was planning a move to the west coast but already had song ideas, so she decided to stay. The two moved into a house with Kimmy and all acquired jobs at the local Smoothie Shack. Moving in is somewhat of a big commitment for a band that just wants to have fun, but the first song they wrote together came easy. It is called Beach Day and it is their first release out July 17th on Kanine Records (limited edition white vinyl 7” & digital download). 7) CHROMATICS/cherry italiansdoitbetter Chromatics are an American electronic music band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2001. The band consists of Ruth Radelet (vocals/synthesizer), Adam Miller (guitar/vocoder), Nat Walker (drums/synthesizer), and Johnny Jewel (producer, multi-instrumentalist). The band's latest album, Kill for Love, was released March 26, 2012. The band originally featured a trademark sound indebted to punk and lo-fi that was described as "noisy" and "chaotic".[1] After numerous lineup changes, which left guitarist Adam Miller as the sole original member, the band began releasing material on the Italians Do It Better record label in 2007. Kill For Love (Italians Do It Better, 2012) 8) evy jane/not so great Experimental electronic musicians aren't quite done yet finding new ways to creatively deface traditional R&B. In the past three years alone, they've pushed it underwater and listened to it sing from beneath the waves; tossed it on a bonfire and recorded the sound of it melting; watched it evaporate and recorded the fumes. Vancouver duo Evy Jane are the latest to bat at the music like curious cats. On "Sayso", vocalist Evelyn Mason sings like she's stumbling around a room in a codeine haze. The lyrics hint darkly at similar sentiments: "There was something in the things you gave me/ I was losing all my self control." It's a queasy performance, underlined by the drums' staggered knock. What raises the song firmly out of the realm of "art-student-fuckery" is the piercing chorus, where Mason pleads repeatedly: "Didn't I tell you/ Not to be so kind to me?" Stunning. 9)fear of men/your side Fear of Men is: Jessica Weiss, Daniel Falvey, Michael Miles and Robyn Edwards Fear of Men, born of an art school project, has turned into one of the most promising bands of 2013. Drawing their inspiration from art and philosophy, Fear of Men deliberately juxtaposes iconic museum imagery and lyrical themes of loneliness and fragmentation with buoyant pop melodies. While studying for a Fine Art & History of Art degree, Jessica Weiss (vocals + guitar) was exhibiting some of her home recordings of ambient soundtracks to short films when these recordings caught the attention of Daniel Falvey (guitar). The two began swapping mix tapes and started a friendship based on a shared love of melody and an eclectic mix of artists such as The Chills, Grouper, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Magnetic Fields, and The Byrds, ultimately leading to the start of a more pop-focused project which they called Fear of Men. Starting out, the duo recorded their music on a 4-track and transferred it onto their laptops, which Jess would then use as part of her degree work. They uploaded their songs to bandcamp which immediately caught the attention of UK blogs. Enlisting the help of friends to play drums and bass, Fear of Men approached DIY promoters and immediately began playing live shows. Fear of Men, completed by Michael Miles (drums) and Robyn Edwards (bass), began releasing singles on DIY and independent UK labels and capturing the attention of Pitchfork, NME, Gorilla vs. Bear, Stereogum, The Fader, Drowned in Sound and topping the Hype Machine charts. For a wider introduction into North America, Fear of Men is releasing “Early Fragments” (February 12, 2013 on Kanine Records) a reverse chronological collection of their previous single releases, many of which were only available in Europe on limited edition 7” and cassette pressings. Fans of Broadcast and Julie Doiron will instantly gravitate toward Jess’ tender vocals and melodies. The songs are beguilingly sweet while the lyrics are often bleakly nihilistic, meaning that you’ll find yourself singing along to these intelligent, well-crafted pop songs while unwittingly sinking deeper into Fear of Men’s world. 10)torres/mother earth father god sce il 22 gennaio prossimo il primo album omonimo di questa giovane artista, Torres (nee Mackenzie Scott) is a Nashville singer/songwriter that uses her music to capture and isolate the various layers of this emotional complexity. "Mother Earth, Father God," the first single from her self-titled debut album, sounds like an introspective look at one nagging, troubling feeling. And yet, despite its dark undertones it conveys a sense of understated bliss. Here, Scott seems to suggest that the beauty of emotion maybe isn't just each separate layer but rather the inexplicable bond that links them all together. 11)Northern State/better already is: Spero (Correne Spero), Hesta Prynn (Julie Potash), Sprout (Robyn Goodmark) Northern State is Spero, Hesta Prynn, and Sprout. Their web site claims their government names are Correne Spero, Hesta Prynn, and Robyn Goodmark, respectively. They grew up on suburban Long Island and “formed a band” in 2000. By 2002, after gigging around all of lower Manhattan and passing out their four-song demo “Hip Hop You Haven’t Heard,” they started to receive some sweet attention – including 4 stars from Rolling Stone, for their demo! The torrent known as Northern State continued with the 2003 release Dying in Stereo (Star Time International) – so successful it quickly led to 2004's All City (Columbia Records), dates with Le Tigre, De La Soul and Talib Kwell and several trips to Scandinavia. In 2005, Northern State continued touring with acts like Tegan and Sara, made a formal break from Columbia and then made moves to start recording with Chuck Brody (Shitake Monkey). Add Adrock from the Beastie Boys production talent, an unprecedented amount of singing, and a ban on writing sessions at the Rodeo Bar- you get their best album to date (even if it is currently untitled), and Kanine jumping at the chance to put out the first single. On The Way Down From Moon Palace (Major Bill). 1996 - Excerpts From a Love Circus (4AD) 1998 - Slide (4AD) 2003 - Lullaby for Liquid Pig (Ineffable), ripubblicato nel 2007 (Young God Records) 2006 - In the Maybe World (Young God Records) 2009 - Magic Neighbour (Young God Records) 2012 - No Elephants (Young God Records) anja schneider suonerà a roma il prossimo 26 gennaio crystal castle a bologna riserva...monsters are waiting/ones and zeros Monsters Are Waiting is: Annalee Fery, Andrew Clark Formed in 2005, Los Angeles based band Monsters are Waiting released their self-titled EP in October of that same year, following up with a full-length album titled “Fascination” in July of 2006. Now, Monsters Are Waiting is returning with their second EP, “Ones and Zeros,” to be released on Kanine Records in Fall of 2008. NME has called Monsters Are Waiting “majestic, Metric-style haunt-rock – monster munching our stereo in the process,” and the combination of Annalee Fery’s innocent, floaty voice and Andrew Clark’s jangly guitar licks has been called “haunting and authentic” by All Music Guide and “elegant without being polished” by LA Weekly. Monsters Are Waiting is expressive without being idiosyncratic, atmospheric, airy, and ambient, blending indie pop with elements of shoegaze and a little bit of a new wave sound.
